Julie is a Niagara based artist that creates contemporary semi-abstract landscape paintings. Her paintings are intuitively textured and created in layers that are inspired by the colours and movements in nature. The drama of stormy skies and golden hour glows are two of her favourite atmospheric conditions. Much of her inspiration comes from her travels to the west coast of Scotland, where the wildness and beauty of the landscape cannot be beat.
Through her art, she wants to encourage people to get outside, witness the remarkable beauty of our planet, appreciate the environment and endeavour to protect it by taking action.
Her paintings are acrylic and mixed media, applied with tools (wedge & brayer preferred), scratched through with sharp pointy things and sanded back to reveal hidden treasure beneath. Collage elements are either hidden or added near the end…sometimes to provide a narrative and sometimes just for fun!
